University applications feel chaotic because several processes happen at once. This guide separates them into one clear sequence—from deciding what to study to tracking an offer.

Build a programme list
Research the programme—not only the university name. Compare curriculum, entry requirements, location, total cost and realistic alternatives.
Find the correct route
Confirm whether you apply through a shared platform, a regional system or directly to the university. Your citizenship, school system and prior study may change the route.
Map requirements and dates
Read the current programme page and application guide. Record prerequisites, tests, writing, portfolios, interviews, references, fees and every relevant deadline.
Gather your evidence
Prepare transcripts, predicted or final grades, test results, identification, activities and any course-specific work. Follow the required upload and translation rules.
Bring in your supporters
Ask recommenders or school staff early. Give them the correct deadline, submission route and enough context to write accurately.
Write, review, submit
Answer the actual prompt in your own voice. Check names, programme choices, word limits and declarations before paying and submitting.
Keep watching after submit
Activate university portals, resolve missing items and monitor decisions, scholarships and offer conditions. Submitting is a milestone, not the finish line.

Many institutions use Common App, while others use another platform or their own application. Requirements can still differ by college.
